“Patcharawat” set up the provincial subcommittee to inspect factories that handle hazardous waste and factories that pose a risk to people and the environment.

Ms. Preeyaporn Suwanaged, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD) revealed that this evening (29 April 2024) at 6:00 p.m., cadmium waste that was found and stored at Thai Metal Wheel Co., Ltd., Bang Sue District, Bangkok and J&B Metal Co., Ltd., Samut Sakhon Province will be transferred back to the landfill in Tak Province. The transport will be completely covered with a waterproof plastic sheet and a GPS tracking system will be used to track the transport. Throughout the transport, police from each area will be tasked with leading the convoy and will stop as necessary. As for the remaining cadmium waste and those from warehouses in Chonburi Province, it will begin transporting in May, with the entire transport expected to be completed by mid-June. PCD assigned the Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) to travel with the cadmium waste transport convoy to monitor the transport from origin to destination, along with pollution measurement equipment. When the transfer is complete, PCD will inspect the environmental quality both inside and outside the factory to further monitor the environmental quality.

 

The meeting of the National Environment Board No. 1/2024 on April 24, 2024, chaired by Pol. Gen. Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, approved the establishment of a provincial subcommittee under the power of Section 18 of the Enhancement and Conservation of National Environmental Quality Act B.E. 2535 to survey factories that handle hazardous waste and factories that pose a risk to people and the environment and report to the National Environment Board within 20 days. PCD assigned the Environment and Pollution Control Office 1 -16 to take action within the specified time frame. The Chairman of the National Environment Board signed the order of provincial subcommittee on April 26, 2024, Ms. Preeyaporn said.
