On 28 August 2025, Mrs. Oranuj Lorphensri, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, chaired the third meeting of 2025 of the Pollution Control Committee.
Ms. Preeyaporn Suwanaged, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD), served as committee member and secretary. Representatives from relevant agencies and experts serving on the Committee also attended the meeting.
The Pollution Control Committee acknowledged the revision of ambient air quality standards for common air pollutants, as endorsed by the Subcommittee on the Determination of Ambient Air Quality Standards. The objective is to promote and protect environmental quality and enhance the protection of public health, with the review taking into account environmental conditions and advances in science, technology, the economy, and society. Key upgraded pollutant standards are as follows:
The revised standards will be proposed to the National Environment Board for consideration and issuance of a formal notification.
In addition, the Pollution Control Committee acknowledged the appointment of new expert members to the Pollution Control Committee, namely (1) Assoc. Prof. Jakkris Sivadechathep, Ph.D.,
(2) Assoc. Prof. Sutha Khaodhiar, Ph.D., (3) Mr. Thalearngsak Petchsuwan, and (4) Dr. Chatchom Akapin.
The Committee also approved the appointment of the Subcommittee on the Determination of Standards for the Control of Wastewater Discharge from Water Pollution Sources. This Subcommittee will be responsible for providing recommendations on the establishment and revision of wastewater discharge standards from water pollution sources to ensure that pollutant releases are consistent with environmental quality standards and the environment’s capacity to absorb pollutants, as well as for defining types of pollution sources required to control wastewater discharge into public water bodies or the environment.
