Mr. Athapol Charoenshunsa, Director General of Pollution Control Department (PCD) Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) revealed that the bad smell problem, which is a nuisance that leads to complaints from civil society, has been increased. Moreover, it is the pollution problem that has the most complaints every year. Complaint’s statistics of PCD in 2021 found that there were 732 complaints about pollution problems. The highest complaints about pollution were 544 bad smell problems (74 percent). The main sources of complaints are industrial factories and animal husbandry businesses.
MNRE formulated odor intensity standards at source, odor sample collection, and a list of odor testers for checking and fixing bad smell. In the past, there was only one odor analysis laboratory under MNRE, located at PCD, Bangkok. It is not enough for the odor analysis to solve the problem. Therefore, MNRE by PCD added an odor analysis laboratory (Sensory Test) at Regional Environmental Office 1-16 and organized training courses on odor measurement and odor analysis for staff according to academic principles. The objectives were to increase the capability of odor measurement and odor analysis in the region and to support the investigation of problems in provincial areas promptly to reduce the problems of the people in the area,
