Mr. Pitaya Pramotvoraphan, Deputy General Director of Pollution Control Department (PCD), revealed that PCD held the meeting municipal solid waste management in collaboration with the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, the Department of Local Administration, the Department of Health, the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, and the Office of Energy Regulatory Commission in order to drive municipal solid waste management on proposal for upgrading
an improper solid waste disposal sites, proposals for separating and collecting system for different types of solid waste and Action plan on Food Waste Management, Phase 1 2023-2027.(B.E. 2566-2570).
Mr. Pitaya said that the implementation of the proposal on upgrading improper solid waste disposal sites into practice has consisted of supporting projects that are ready to produce electricity, both existing projects and new project proposals, numerical improvements of cluster areas in waste management of local administrative organizations, and supporting the way to dispose of solid waste under the proposals.
For encouraging people to separate waste, PCD has developed proposal for separating and collecting system for different types of solid waste in order to support local administrative organizations and other related agencies to work in the same direction. This proposal will be submitted to the Pollution Control Committee and the National Environment Board to call for supporting at the policy level and to select pilot areas to make a lesson learned on implementing of waste separation systems, and social rules that will lead to develop the regulations under the current laws.
In this regard, when local administrative organizations can separate waste efficiently, it will support local administrative organization to manage food waste easier at the final destination. Without proper food waste separation, it would be difficult to utilize other types of waste efficiently. Additionally, food waste in the main cause of greenhouse gas emissions in the community sector. Therefore, PCD and relevant agencies will support local administrative organization to have food waste management system at the final destination and promote and support businesses initiative that utilize food waste in the business to reduce the amount of waste sent for further disposal.
