PCD opened a real-time noise reporting system to monitor public health

Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, revealed that PCD has been continuously monitoring noise levels in areas along traffic routes and general areas since 1994 (B.E. 2537) to assess the situation and plan to prevent and solve noise pollution problem and monitoring public health. The data has been disseminated to relevant agencies for basic use. PCD has 30 semi-permanent noise monitoring stations throughout Bangkok, perimeter, and provincial areas. Currently, measurement data collection from stations is stored in a database which are ready for interpretation into various informational formats, such as continuous reporting (real-time) on the internet or used in computer models to forecast noise levels.

Dr. Pinsak said that to modernize noise level reporting in order to access to users in various channels, PCD has opened application “Sound24Thai” and website “Noise4Thai.net” to report noise levels. These platforms display data of PCD from 30 stations in Bangkok, perimeter, and provincial areas. Additionally, they provide a channel for the public to participate in noise reporting by using their mobile phones and to submit data through the Sound24Thai application, available on iOS Android, and Harmonie OS in the PCD platforms. This platform was developed under the project to enhance the network system for noise level reporting and forecasting.
