MONRE warned that 24 wastewater treatment systems would be at risk of flooding.

Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD), revealed that due to heavy rain and flooding in many areas, Pol. Gen. Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment: MONRE), ordered agencies in MONRE to monitor the situation and assist in areas affected by the floods.

Dr. Pinsak said that PCD surveyed 118 wastewater treatment systems in Thailand and found that only 24 wastewater treatment systems have been located in provinces at risk of being affected by flooding, including Lamphun Town Municipality, Chiang Mai City Municipality, Lampang City Municipality, Sukhothai Thani Town Municipality, Nan Town Municipality, Tak Town Municipality, Mae Sot City Municipality  (Tak Province), Kamphaeng Phet Town Municipality, Salokbat Subdistrict Municipality (Kamphaeng Phet Province), Chaiyaphum Town Municipality, Nakhon Ratchasima City Municipality, Pak Chong Town Municipality (Nakhon Ratchasima Province), Udon Thani City Municipality, Sothon Town Municipality, Kalasin Town Municipality, Khon Kaen City Municipality, Ubon Ratchathani City Municipality, Warin Chamrap Town Municipality (Ubon Ratchathani Province), Chachoengsao Town Municipality, Bang Khla Subdistrict Municipality (Chachoengsao Province), Kanchanaburi Town Municipality, Ban Mi Town Municipality (Lopburi Province), and Yala City Municipality (2 wastewater treatment systems). Currently, there is no wastewater treatment system affected by flooding.

PCD has guidelines on preventing and reducing the impact of flooding on household wastewater collection and treatment system and sent them to the Environment and Pollution Control Office 1-16 as guidelines for local administrative organizations in 1) preventing and solving problems with wastewater treatment systems in the area, 2) notifying the situation, and 3) providing academic consultation, Dr. Pinsak said.
