Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD), revealed that Thailand is entering the winter season. It leads to closed weather conditions and inclement meteorological conditions. The air buoyancy ceiling tends to be decreased, causing poor particulate matter dispersion.
This affects the accumulation of particulate matter that exceeds the standard level during certain periods. Pol. Gen. Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, ordered to speed up preparations to deal with the PM_2.5 problem in all dimensions, build cooperation with all sectors, and enhance communication and notification to the public. PCD together with the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and the Automotive Industry Club, which includes 9 automobile manufacturers, including TOYOTA, ISUZU, MITSUBISHI, NISSAN, MAZDA, FORD, HONDA, SUZUKI, and HINO, have implemented the nationwide campaign “Car Clinic to Reduce PM_2.5” from 1 November 2023 to 30 April 2024.

Dr. Pinsak said that the campaign “Car Clinic to Reduce PM_2.5” including 9 automobile manufacturers has provided services through the service centers of each brand. The service centers have offered free engine checks, lubricant change services, and special discounts on lubricants, auto parts, and labor rates to encourage owners of vehicles to participate in preventing and solving the upcoming air pollution crisis. The discounts have been bigger for older vehicles.

Changing lubricants for a specified time can reduce particulate matter by 25%. We want to invite people to inspect vehicles at the service centers participating in the campaign. We have to work together to reduce air pollution as part of reducing PM_2.5 for everyone’s good health.
