Thailand, Lao PDR, and Myanmar have jointly endorsed the joint Action Plan to prevent and resolve transboundary haze problem under the CLEAR Sky Strategy B.E. 2567-2573 (2024-2030).

Ms. Preeyaporn Suwanaged, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD) revealed that in 2023, Thailand, Lao PDR, and Myanmar announced the CLEAR Sky Strategy to jointly manage the transboundary haze problem and developed the joint action plan to prevent and resolve transboundary haze problem under the CLEAR Sky Strategy B.E. 2567-2573 (2024-2030). It was finalized in July 2024 and endorsed officially meeting on August 22, 2024.

Ms. Preeyaporn said that the official endorsement meeting on the joint action plan to prevent and resolve the transboundary haze problem under the CLEAR Sky Strategy B.E. 2567-2573 (2024-2030) was attended by the Director General of the Natural Resources and Environment Research Institute (Lao PDR), the Director General of the Environmental Conservation Department (Myanmar), the Director General of PCD, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (Thailand), representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and representatives from other relevant agencies of Thailand, Lao PDR, and Myanmar. The joint action plan focuses on four key areas: 1) controlling and extinguishing fires from open burning, 2) forecasting and monitoring haze situations, 3) managing sustainable agriculture, and 4) enforcing laws on the transboundary haze of each country’s legislation.

This meeting marked a significant step toward the effective implementation of the joint action plan to tackle transboundary haze issues among the three nations. PCD will summit the joint action plan to the Cabinet. Subsequently, will invite the ministers from Lao PDR and Myanmar to the official launch of the action plan together, Ms. Preeyaporn said.
