In 2024, Over 1,000 Pollution Complaints Filed; Public Satisfaction with Resolutions Exceeds 90%

Ms. Preeyaporn Suwanaged, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD), revealed that in the fiscal year 2024, PCD received a total of 1,021 pollution complaints. The areas with the highest number of complaints were Bangkok with 276 cases, followed by Samut Prakan with 66 cases, and Samut Sakhon with 56 cases. The most reported type of pollution issue was unpleasant odors, with 711 cases, accounting for 41%. This was followed by particulate matter and smoke, with 442 cases (25%), and noise pollution, with 253 cases (15%). The most common channels used by the public to report complaints were the hotline 1650, with 460 cases (45%), followed by PCD website with 188 cases (18%), and PCD Facebook page with 141 cases (14%). Additionally, the primary sources of pollution problems were industrial factories, with 426 cases (42%), followed by businesses with 293 cases (29%), and other sources such as polluted canal water and transportation issues, with 117 cases (11%).

Ms. Preeyaporn further stated that PCD has taken action on the complaints received and conducted a satisfaction survey among the public. The survey revealed a high satisfaction level, averaging 91%. PCD’s operations cover everything from receiving complaints to coordination and fact-checking. PCD officials received high ratings for their attentiveness, politeness, readiness to assist, problem-solving capabilities, as well as for their honesty, transparency, and fairness in their work. This reflects the efficiency and dedication of the staff in addressing pollution issues for the public.
