PCD Ranks Top 10 Clean Water Sources for 2024.

Ms. Preeyaporn Suwanaged, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD), announced that PCD has been monitoring the water quality of key water sources nationwide. A total of 398 monitoring points across 61 main rivers and 9 static water sources have been measured four times a year. The assessment uses the Water Quality Index (WQI), and the findings for 2024 show that 43% of water sources (30 locations) meet good water quality standards, 36% (25 locations) meet acceptable standards, and 21% (15 locations) have deteriorated quality.

Ms. Preeyaporn revealed that the top 10 cleanest water sources in 2024 are 1) Khaew Noi River, 2) Upper Tapi River, 3) Kwai Yai River, 4) Kok River and Upper Mekong River, 5) Songkram River, Nong Han, and Li River, 6) Upper Lang Suan River, 7) Kui Buri River, Trang River, and Sai Buri River, 8) Maeklong River, and High Seas, 9) Upper Phetchaburi River, Pong River, Chumphon River, and Upper Pattani River, and 10) Un River, and Lam Phao River. Altogether, there are 20 top-ranked water sources.

Water is a vital resource for human survival, essential for consumption, agriculture, industry, transportation, energy production, tourism, and sports. It also plays a critical ecological role in maintaining ecosystem balance. To preserve and improve the quality of water sources, Ms. Preeyaporn urged the public and all sectors to refrain from dumping waste into public water bodies, treat wastewater before discharging it, reduce water usage, and avoid using chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides in agricultural activities.
