The National Environment Board approved the second action plan for solving the problem of particulate matter pollution.

Ms. Preeyaporn Suwanaged, Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD), revealed that during the 1st/2568 meeting of the National Environment Board held yesterday (3 February 2025), Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong (Deputy Prime Minister) as Chairman, Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat (Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) as a Board Member and Secretary, along with experts and representatives from relevant agencies, reviewed and approved the second action plan to drive the national agenda on ‘solving the problem of particulate matter pollution’ for 2025-2027 and the next five years. The plan focuses on the development of an integrated air pollution management system through prevention, reduction, and control of air pollution from its sources, aiming to ensure that individuals, communities, and the public have the right to clean air. The plan emphasizes controlling air pollution from industrial, transportation, forestry, agricultural, and urban sectors, while establishing tools, mechanisms, technologies, laws, regulations, incentives, economic measures, and enforcement across urban areas, forests, agricultural areas, and transboundary pollution. This is in alignment with the Clean Air Act. The goal is to ensure that the average 24-hour PM2.5 levels remain at a safe level for health and that burnt scar areas decrease by at least 50% compared to the 5-year average. This plan will be presented to the Cabinet for consideration and further announcement.

Additionally, the National Environment Board approved the revision of the standards for controlling the wastewater discharge from freshwater aquaculture pond, as well as the classification and size of freshwater aquaculture pond that must be regulated for wastewater discharge, in accordance with Section 55 and Section 69 of the Enhancement and Conservation of National Environment Quality Act B.E. 2535, Ms. Preeyaporn said.
